Theatre Curriculum

ACTING & COMP THEATRE – The purpose of this course is to provide students with opportunities to develop and synthesize all of the elements of theatre into final production using various media, techniques, and processes. The content will include, but not be limited to, the following: acting, pantomime, improvisation, voice and diction, movement, artistic discipline, auditioning and casting, characterization, roles and careers, playwriting and analysis, theatre management, theatre terminology, aesthetic response and assessment, rehearsal procedures, and directing. A portion of this course is designed to give the junior student the opportunity to concentrate on the development of plans for university and scholarship applications. PREREQUISITE: Teacher recommendation

TECHNICAL THEATRE & STAGECRAFT – The purpose of this course is to provide students with opportunities to learn the varied aspects of technical theatre and apply skills through practical experiences. The content should include, but not be limited to, the following: set design and construction, costume design and construction, lighting design and application, properties design and application, theatre management, stage management, artistic discipline, roles and careers, theatre history and literature, aesthetic response and assessment, safety procedures, theatre terminology. PREREQUISITE: Teacher recommendation.

THEATER HISTORY AND LITERATURE I & II – The purpose of this course is to provide students with opportunities to explore the creation and development of theatre and its literature within an historical context. The content should include, but not be limited to, the following: historical styles, historical design and production aspects, analysis and interpretation of theatre literature, playwriting, roles and careers in theatre, artistic discipline, aesthetic response and assessment, and theatre terminology. A portion of this course is designed to give the senior theatre student the opportunity to concentrate on finalizing university and scholarship auditions. PREREQUISITE: Teacher recommendation.

MUSICAL THEATER I, II, III, AM MUSICAL THEATER – Musical Theater provides career oriented students of musical theater the opportunities to study and perform scenes from varied styles of musical theater with special attention to the fundamentals of stage movement, acting, characterization, and technical aspects of musical production. Emphasis will also be placed on audition requirements for college admissions in musical theatre. PREREQUISITE: Teacher recommendation.
