The Summer Youth Employment Program operates for 8 weeks from June 2016 – August 2016. Youth will work approximately 30 hours per week during the program, and will earn the current minimum wage per hour.

Who is eligible to apply?
Economically disadvantaged Broward County residents, ages 16-18.

Parenting of Teens Classes Now Offered

This six-session Active Parenting of Teens series will provide parents with guidance and support to transform the challenges of raising a teenager into opportunities for growth. Participants will learn:

  •   Styles of parenting
  •   Positive skills for clear, honest communication
  •   Respectful basic and advanced discipline techniques to teach your child to make better choices resulting in appropriate behavior
  •   Using the Think-Feel-Do Cycle to intervene and build self-esteem
  •   Concrete strategies to prevent risky behavior and help your child resist peer pressure
  •   Problem solving methods including using family meetings and the FLAC method
  •   5 goals of teen behavior
  •   Decreasing power struggles
  •   Handling anger

Learn to become an encouraging parent and much more; including important issues such as teens online, bullying, alcohol and other drugs, sexuality and depression. Join us at the next session and see the difference … as you make positive and realistic changes in your family’s daily routine to gain greater happiness in your home!

Senior Art Show – Jan 20

Dillard Center for the Arts proudly presents The Senior Art Exhibit this year for students Charisma Bacon, Corey Lovett, Piero Penizzotto, Lara Pinheiro, and Johanna Sapicas. The opening reception will be held in the DCA Art Gallery on Wednesday, January 20th from 4pm – 6:30pm. This is a FREE event.

The students’ artwork will be “FOR SALE” and all monies collected go directly to the five students to help offset the high costs of college/university study (applications, supplies, and books/supplies). The exhibit is a student run production, in which they create the invitations, advertise, prep the gallery, hang the artwork with labels, provide refreshments, and sell their artwork. Please plan to come out with family and friends for a wonderful evening of art and refreshments to encourage these young talented students.

Performing Arts Magnet Open House – Thursday, Jan 21

Dillard Center for the Arts is proud to announce it’s DCA Visual & Performing Arts Magnet Program Open House, Jaunary 21 beginning at 6:30 PM.

The evening will feature showcase performances from our award winning Music, Theatre and Dance Departments. Our Visual Arts Department will also have an exhibit on display in our very own 2500 sq. ft. Art Gallery.

Students and parents will then be given a tour of the World Class DCA Performing Arts Center which includes our state of the art Theatre, Blackbox Theatre, Recital Hall, Recording Studios and Ensemble Rehearsal Spaces.

DHS Cheerleaders Present “State Bound Showcase”

The defending State Champion DHS Cheerleading Team will host a Competitive Cheer Fundraiser on Saturday. January 23, 2016 in the Herman Pittman Gymnasium. The showcase begins at 3:00 PM and is FREE to the public.  However, donations are greatly appreciated as the defending state champs are asking your support to help them reach their goal to raise enough funds to return to the state championships to defend their title.  Doors open at 2:30 PM. Tech Magnet To Host Open House Jan. 27

Are you always thinking about making your toaster move? Do you upgrade your own RAM just because the computer could go a little faster? When actually turn the computer do you spend your time doodling? Or perhaps you look at the code of websites and personalize famous sites?

Dillard Center of Technology’s Emerging Computer Technology is the place for you. Come to our Open House, Meet our talented teachers and students. January 27, 2015 6-8 pm.

Young Scholars Program Application Now Available

The program is designed for students who have completed the eleventh grade in a Florida public or private high school. A few exceptionally qualified and mature tenth graders have been selected in past years, though this is quite rare.

To be considered for acceptance,applicants must:

  • Maintain at least a 3.0 GPA (unweighted)
  • Have received a score in the 90th percentile or better in math on a nationally standardized exam (i.e., SAT, PSAT, ACT, or PLAN) before the application deadline
  • Be enrolled in or have completed Pre-Calculus
  • Be able to commit for the entire six weeks of the program (no exceptions will be made for travel to other summer internship opportunities, sports camps, Mu Alpha Theta, etc.)
  • Maintain a permanent residence in the state of Florida

Important Dates for 2016:
January 1, 2016: Applications available online
February 15, 2016: Application deadline (must be postmarked by this day)
May 15, 2016: Admissions decisions finalized (on or before this day)
June 12, 2016: Students arrive on FSU campus
July 23, 2016: All YSP students depart FSU campus.
October 15, 2016: Summative evaluations available to students (on or before this day)

DCA To Host Festival of Winds Concert Band Festival

Join us for an evening of bold and lively music at the “Festival of Winds 2016”, a musical experience designed to showcase high school concert bands throughout South Florida. The Festival’s non-competitive atmosphere provides a place for growth, as each band will have the opportunity to work with renowned university directors, for an on-stage, clinic following their performance.

DHS Sponsors 2016 College Tour

Mr. Witherspoon is preparing for a 3 Day College Tour for Dillard High School Seniors. The tour will take place February 17-19, 2016. Only 50 students will be able to attend based on a first come first served basis. A deposit of $50 is due Janurary 15, 2016. The remaining balance is due Februrary 5, 2016. DHS To Host FAMU Scholarship & Recruitment Program

Dillard High School will host the FAMU Scholarship & Recruitment Show January 13, 2016 in the DCA Theater beginning at 10:30 AM. The event will feature on the spot admission opportunities. See Mr. Witherspoon to sign up.  A COMPLETED application to FAMU is required to attend the event. Applications and passes can be obtained in Mr. Witherspoon’s office in guidance.
